My latest music review of a guy named Jeff Hyman, and his latest project called “Old Dog New Tricks, a folkish kind of album and very eclectic in nature and very much sounding like a roll back to the folk years of yesteryear. With the first track called “Dog on A Day” where Jeff brings in his true elements of folk and acoustic sounds and is a really smooth and relaxing song. “Let The Mystery Be” another great folk song and Jeff has a innate ability to make a song feel and breathe and leave you with a true sense of meaning and real emotional attachment. This song popularized by Iris Dement. Jeff serves this song total justice and adds a newer flavor with his smooth vocals. “Moonglow Rising” is yet another reason to keep your ears in the speakers with Jeff adding in his unique flavor and his ability to make the song his own and adds in flavor to enhance this already great melody. “Don’t leave Me On My Own” a song written by Chris Isaak, and Jeff does a wonderful rendition of this song, in fact I always thought this song needed to be sung by another music artist, and at the time I didn’t know who, but with Jeffs’ vocals he is that voice that I was looking for and adds a superbly and admirable job on this song. I’ve always loved this song a song called “Love Love Love” written by John Prine and with Jeff Hyman bringing his awesome flavorful vocals it comes to life and adds his honesty and forthright sounds to this song and makes it a wonderful addition to this collection. “The Road To Ensenada” a Lyle Lovett song and Jeff adds his spin to it and really brings out the story line to it and Jeff really seems to have that ability on his songs. With his continued musicality on every song, including this one. In my opinion Jeff is a natural and doesn’t seem to have to even try to sing the songs, he seems to sing all of them effortlessly and he has a element of smoothness that is really a refreshing change to the every day sound of some music today. “Railroad Bill” is a very traditional folk song and has been covered by a grip of musicians throughout music history, Jeff lends his effort and with the backup singers makes it feel like the song was meant to be sung. The next song on this marvelously recorded album Jeff takes on the song “The Roseville Fair” with Beth Bradley and is a wonderful song and Beth adds her distinctive and natural vocals mixed with Jeff and makes it sound great. The next song is simply put.. amazing with the honor and proud moment with legendary folk singer and songwriter Chad Mitchell of the Chad Mitchell Trio and the song brings feelings of a day of folk music owned the radio. Jeff & Chad really together sound magnificent and amazing and wonderful. The song is called “Comedians & Angels and between Jeff and Chad they superbly master this song and I loved it from start to end. The next song on this truly amazing work of music art that Jeff sings is a song sung by one of my musical heroes the late Merle Haggard the song “Sing Me Back Home” and Jeff serves incredible justice to the late Merle where the way Jeff allows his vocals tell the innocence of this song and really maintains the message of it. “Somewhere In Time” is an incredible song and written by the folk singer David Mallett and the song is a really sensitive and emotional one for me, for I have been so fortunate to see David Mallett in concert twice and this song just brings the tears to a place I went while listening to this song for the first time. I have fond memories of a simply easier time in my life, when I heard Jeff sing this song it took me back to that time and my mind went adrift to “Somewhere in Time” The last song on this splendid and superb album is written by a true music legend Eric Clapton the song called “Lay Down Sally” and Jeff once again keeps his superb sound and tremendously smooth vocal arrangements in check and makes the grade with his rendition of this vintage song. I wish to take the time to thank Jeff for the opportunity to hear his wonderful masterpiece of an album and for bringing my mind back to a simple time with his smooth & sensitive vocals. I thank him for his wonderful friendship & look forward to hearing more from him in the future, and perhaps catching one of his shows.

I truly admire the time and efforts you place into these reviews and reading them also reflects another side of this business that sets us into the next generation of musics finest.
That involves writers at every direction the artist that performs the very songs written by the most honorable writers that expresses a life caption of each song written, a song must have a character image to bring it into motion with a soul of an expressions that touch the hearts of many, many times I find myself captured in the essence writing the next hit but instead have to focus more on the craft of writing, finetuning every line, every word, not just lyrics at the top of my head of what I think should be said but what captures the audience.
I’m so grateful for friends like you Steven F Adams, god has given us all the gifts of writing, the gifts of being singers artist of many genres.
